The following information is the Second update on his most recent battle with Cancer.

7-4-08 Well, Thursday morning I completed month two of eight months of planned chemo, using Velcade as the treatment. They said it isn't as hard on the body as my previous chemo's, however I am discovering some side effects. After last month's treatments, I attended the Ohio council of Deliberation in Cincinnati. Early Saturday morning I ended up in the “Christ Hospital” ER with severe back pains. I assumed that it was one of my occasional kidney stone episodes, but the CT Scan revealed no stones causing the pain. Three Morphine shots later they discharged me. Gradually over the next few days the back pain subsided. That brings me to this month's treatments. Last Wednesday morning (5 am) I was admitted to St. Luke's ER with the same severe back pains and stomach distress. The CT Scan once again revealed no kidney stones as the cause of the pain. The timing was so coincidental with my treatments that I consulted the folks at the Oncology Center to determine if there could be reasonable correlation between my symptoms and the treatments. The drugs being used have a tendency to block the internal plumbing causing constipation which when extending over several days may be the cause the stomach distress and back pain. Now the plan is to also follow a treatment for unblocking the internal plumbing and keeping it functional for the remainder of the treatments. I sure hope that solves this problem.Other than these recent symptoms, I am doing well. I have noticed some change in my taste buds. Food still has flavor but the flavors are not as I remembered. I get tired rather quickly but I can't say that is due to the treatments since my 72nd birthday is today. Not bad since they gave me 7 months to 27 months prognosis when first diagnosed in April 1999. They still say I will get to keep my hair this time.

Jan-July 2008

Dear Family, it has been a long time since I have created a monthly posting, for this, I ask for your forgiveness. My only rationale is I did not put aside the time nor effort in the passing months to do so. We all have our daily routines, schedules and buisness to attend to, and I the same. With that being said, I would like to welcome you back to the Olmstead Insider of 2008.

I am currently in the process of finishing this years invite to the Family Reunion. For those of you who would prefer to have the invitation sent by email saving on paper and cost, I would be happy to send the PDF document to you once completed provided you contact me shortly. I would love to hear updates from everyone how you are doing and any who are interested in helping out with the following Olmstead Reunion Roles please let me know: Music, Worship, Games for the Children, Comedian for the day, or any other roles you would like the president to consider. Have a great month and hope to hear from YOU ALL soon.

Happy 4th of July!

Love & God Bless

Sept-Oct-Nov 2007

Hello Family,

If you have not been visiting this site in a while, you may not have noticed, but the blog has not been updated for a while. I have been trying to balance school, work, family and rest for some time now and still am. For that I send my apologies. I would love to hear about updates and current events in everyone's life, or re-submit your families URLs to show current pictures or events already posted online. In the mean time enjoy the two pictures I uploaded above of recent family gatherings.

Both Alisha and I send our love and prayers to all. May they find you and overwhelm you with warmth and care.

Back to work, school work, and school tasks.
